It was this week, May 25th in fact, in 1961 when John F. Kennedy kicked off the moon-race with his famous quote "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth.” By expressing publicly, unprecedented optimism in our ability as a country to achieve an ostentatious goal, JFK took the most important step in putting an American on the moon.
The president reiterated the point in a speech at Rice University on the 12th of September, 1962 when he proclaimed, “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” The moon-race would become, and forever be, a marker for American ingenuity and a source of American pride.
At Portable Kitchens, we’re not sending folks to the moon, but we are proudly participating in a long tradition of American productivity while many in our industry choose the simpler path of mass overseas production.
