JFK and PK

Posted by Scott Moody on 27th May 2014

It was this week, May 25th in fact, in 1961 when John F. Kennedy kicked off the moon-race with his famous quote "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth.”  By expressing publicly, unprecedented optimism in our ability as a country to achieve an ostentatious goal, JFK took the most important step in putting an American on the moon.

The president reiterated the point in a speech at Rice University on the 12th of September, 1962 when he proclaimed, “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”  The moon-race would become, and forever be, a marker for American ingenuity and a source of American pride.

At Portable Kitchens, we’re not sending folks to the moon, but we are proudly participating in a long tradition of American productivity while many in our industry choose the simpler path of mass overseas production.   Our formula is a function of quality.  Quality which is the result of craftsmanship.  It is this hands-on craftsmanship that ensures that the PK Grill you buy today is still impressing your friends for many Memorial Days to come.  We choose to do it this way, not because it is easy, but because it is the right way to make the best charcoal grill and smoker for your money.  We hope you had a great Memorial Day holiday.  Keep the coals in your PK hot for the USA this week and give us all the juicy details right here or on social media.
